Global Relocation Trends - Industry Spotlight Report

Overcoming Inhibitors to International Employee MobilityInhibitors Spotlight Report - icon

A successful mobility program is a key goal of international employee mobility leaders worldwide. Ideally, this would be a program that addresses and takes account of the long term strategy of the company as well as the functional needs of the business units requiring assignments, the financial objectives of company leadership, the human capital plan of human resources and the administrative capacity of the mobility department.

Through in-depth interviews with over a dozen global mobility leaders in Europe and the U.S., Brookfield Global Relocation Services explored the challenges companies have faced in developing their programs to meet their constituents’ needs and how they have addressed the issues that can inhibit international employee mobility.

This report examines the top inhibitors cited by our interviewees, their efforts to overcome them and how they have succeeded in their endeavors. The inhibitors raised by the study participants include:

  • Mobility programs that are not aligned with business goals
  • Business unit and senior management leaders who are out of step with the career development needs of their globally mobile employees
  • Policy provisions that do not address the current needs of assignees
  • Lack of commitment to compliance in key areas
  • Regional resistance to global programs
